One of the classic and most favorite dishes of the Greek cuisine! The beef stew is cooked in every Greek household, most people love it and it is a recipe easy to follow. It is ideally served with mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, macaroni, rice or even with a simple green salad and some bread!


Aromatic, Gluten-free

  • 1.200 kg beef, cut into medium-sized chunks and left for 1 hour at room temperature
  • 75 ml olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 celery, chopped OR 2 tbsp dried celery Sunspices
  • 600 ml beef broth (homemade or beef broth cube dissolved in 600 ml water)
  • 600 gr canned whole tomatoes
  • 150 ml red wine
  • Salt, pepper
  • 1 tbsp Carino stew seasoning


  1. Using paper towel, we pat the beef chunks dry. In a large pot, we put the olive oil and we let it heat very well. We start adding the beef in batches. We want to have one single layer of beef chunks every time, because the addition of all the beef at once will release too much moisture which will not let us sear the beef properly. We cook the beef until it gets a nice color, occasionally turning it. When the first batch is ready, we transfer the beef pieces to a plate and we repeat the same process with the remaining beef.
  2. After we have seared all beef, we add the vegetables. We sauté them for about 5 minutes. Then, we add the seared beef chunks and we stir very well. Then, we add the wine and we cook for about 10 minutes on high heat, until half the wine evaporates.
  3. We add the broth, the tomatoes and their juices and the Carino stew seasoning. We stir and bring to a boil. We lower the heat, we cover the pot with a lid and we cook for 1:30-2 hours, until the meat becomes very tender. Our sauce should have thickened enough. If it is still watery, we cook for a few more minutes, without covering the pot, so that the liquids evaporate. We check to see if the food needs more salt or pepper and we serve with a side dish of our preference.
