Mini Donuts with Chocolate Sauce

The donuts (or doughnut) is one of the most popular and delicious desserts of the world. Donuts have a long history. According to a theory, they were produced for the first time in North America by Dutch settlers. According to anthropologist Paul Mullins, a 1803 English book was the first book that mentioned donuts, which by the mid-19th century looked and tasted like today’s donut. The Greek version of donut is “loukoumas” which is soaked in syrup.


For Vegetarians

  • 250 gr flour
  • 110 gr sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder Sunspices
  • 1 tsp cinnamon Sunspices
  • 1 tsp ginger Sunspices
  • 1/4 tsp clove Sunspices
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg Sunspices
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 125 ml full-fat milk, at room temperature
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • Sunflower oil for frying
  • Sugar for sprinkling

For the chocolate sauce

  • 200 gr dark chocolate, cut in pieces
  • 150 ml cream
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon


  1.  In a bowl, we stir the flour, the sugar, the cinnamon, the ginger, the clove, the nutmeg, and the baking powder. Make a well in the center of the flour and add the beaten egg. We stir with a fork. Then, we add the milk and stir to incorporate. Finally, we add the melted butter and stir well until we have a smooth batter.

  2. We warm the sunflower oil (about 3 cups) until the surface shimmers (we check if it’s ready by dropping some batter into the oil. If it starts being fried immediately, the oil is ready). We drop the batter by tablespoonfuls into the hot oil. We make sure that we don’t drop too many donuts (about 6-7 each time) into the oil. We fry them for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown. We remove from the oil and we drain them on absorbent paper. We repeat until the batter is all used. While the donuts are still warm, we transfer them to a bowl with sugar and we coat them well.

  3. For the glaze: We put the chocolate in a bowl. We warm the cream and we pour it into the chocolate. We add the cinnamon. We stir well until the chocolate is melted and we serve it with the donuts.
