Chicken Gyros with Easy Tzatziki

Gyros took its name from the word “gyra” which means the rotation of the meat while it is cooked. The recipe for the gyros was brought by the refugees of the Asia Minor and Constantinople and now gyros is well known around the world. For this recipe we decided to use chicken thigh fillet, because it is tastier than breast. But, if you want less fat, you can use just breast filler or both. We serve gyros with an easy to make tzatziki and we accompany with pita bread, tomato and onion slices.

Ingredients

Aromatic, Gluten-free

  • 800 gr chicken thigh (or breast) fillet, cut into thin strips
  • 2 tbsp Carino chicken seasoning
  • Zest from ½ lemon
  • 50 ml olive oil

For the easy tzatziki

  • 200-250 gr Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp Carino tzatziki
  • Zest from ½ lemon

Method

  1. In a bowl, we mix Carino, lemon zest and the olive oil until we have a paste. We add the chicken strips and we mix very well until the chicken is well coated.
  2. We heat very well a frying pan. We add the chicken in batches and we cook it for about 10 minutes on each side, until it gets a nice color and the chicken is thoroughly cooked. We transfer the first batch to a plate and we repeat the same process until we have cooked all chicken,
  3. In a bowl, we put the yogurt, Carino tzatziki and lemon zest and we mix well. We taste it and, if we want, we add some more tzatziki seasoning.
  4. We serve the gyros chicken with the tzatziki, and, if we want, we accompany with pita breads, tomato, onion and French fries.
